Poetry for Unity #7

We've Been Friends

by Austin Ponder Collins

You're not the one that I could have been.

I'd rather make the change

You know the time

I spent in your jail

Brother was a low-down part-time part time man

I didn't speak my mind

And didn't know how his life might have been

It wasn't complicated, I knew

And how've you come to be

The son of war

But evidently, he isn't

You're not the one that I would have been

The son of queen honey

But evidently, I don't feel the same

We've been friends

Everything's been left out of the pot law cases.

We've gone out in the streets of a motel room

I've been waiting for you down by the river

You'll never call this real

What is Prayer?

And so it is.
